Stop Time From Flying By

It is truly amazing to me that another anniversary of both my parent’s death is approaching. I cannot believe that it’s been 7 years for my mom and 15 for my dad. As much as a new season is always a time for reflection for me, this October, the month they both passed away, is making me think about how fast time goes and how short life is.

After my mom died, I took a year long course on how to be mindful and present. It taught me behavioral practices with specific daily tips and strategies to better understand and manage my thoughts and emotions. I now get relief from my feelings of loss.

In the end, ironically, I turned the worst times in my life into the greatest gifts and abilities I’ve ever discovered. I didn’t want to be an over thinker and a fearful person; this was not my way of living a full life.I consciously decided I wanted to be the best that I could be. I wanted to have an impact on others in my life; to share how to slow life right down, enjoy, appreciate and focus on it!

Here is how I am doing it:

I’m grateful – at nighttime I say 3 things that occurred that day that I’m grateful for

I’m present – I breath and meditate from 1 minute to 15 (sometimes more)

I’m positive – I make thoughts more positive by ending them with powerful words

I concentrate on people – I surrounded my self with people who had my back

I make my thoughts a reality – I read the Law of Attraction and truly believed in what I was learning. Consequently, people and events that I am deserving of, started to come back into my life,

I catch myself worrying – “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.” –Leo F. Buscaglia

I ask –I’m no longer afraid to ask for anything!…for help or to learn

I like what I do – I find my passions and this leads to always doing activities I enjoy

I slow down – this allows more pleasure and sensations in eating, exercise, conversatons and feelings

I say no – this defines who I am; I choose if it will benefit me. I decide if it will harm or distract me from my path forward

I create happy spaces – whether it is in my home, where I work or who I am with, I surround myself with joy

I eat well

I exercise everyday

I enjoy the outdoors

And last but not least

I drive slower – it may “drive” people crazy but I use the car to think about my life. I look at what I am passing and how I am feeling. This is often the activity that stresses people out the most so why not accept this as a challenge? After all, it will be safer, cheaper on gas and way more enjoyable (possibly healthier due to a lower heart rate!)

Embrace your life and enjoy it today!

I thank my Mom and Dad for giving me life lessons and strengths that enable me to replace a shattered soul, a broken heart and a huge void in my life with small changes towards a more appreciative and rewarding life.
