I Choose Me

I choose me.

It sounds egotistical but its not. Instead its a decision made from life long lessons of adversity.

Times and generations have changed and I am glad to report more people are doing what they really want. They don’t necessarily get high school degrees, jobs out of university, or get married and have babies when the clock is ticking. If they aren’t happy with their careers, they quit. If the marriage isn’t working, they leave. Life is too short and people are exploring their options and doing what they want and what they dream about!

They are thinking more and more – I choose me.

I woke up one day years ago and I promised to be true to myself, love myself and pick what makes me happy in life; caring less about the opinions of others and what they say and think.  I was hearing too much and getting frustrated. Those who annoy you control you so….  I chose me. I decide to be present with myself so that I may be the most effective parent, friend, partner, neighbour and mentor as possible. The effects are fascinating as you will read below!

Let me explain:

“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” —Abraham Lincoln

Life is a choice and I want to fully experience me, now and forever. I have learned to practice certain daily routines and behaviors that improve my way of life that are consistent with choosing me first. After all, I am the only one that really, really knows me; the only one that knows my body, my spirit and my feelings. Once I made this realization I learned to listen to the signs my body gave me. Signs that nobody else could possibly ever even know about me or even give me for that matter; tummy aches, headaches, butterflies, gitters, cold sweats, heavy breathing and so on. The body does not lie and my body is my best friend. It is my everything and so is yours!

The Results of Choosing Me (just to list a few):

  • More Positive – I get to start everyday on my terms; I wake up and say “today is going to be a great day”.
  • Healthier – I can have juices and smoothies customized by me and for me, depending on the day and my mood
  • Happier – I can leave the house and go for a walk with a smile on my face because I love the reactions I get and how it makes my facial muscles relax.
  • More Fit – I can decide when and where to exercise based on what feels good for me
  • Increased Control -I choose not to engage in certain conflicts because I can just walk away. I can do what is best for me.
  • Calmer – I choose when to meditate and what topic I want to listen to
  • More Visionary – I can believe whatever I want and dream endlessly
  • Kinder – I choose how I treat others; what goes around comes around
  • A Better Listener -I choose to listen and see the other side and learn, there is always another side to every story
  • More Focused and Centered – I learned to be present and allow all my feelings to exist without a fight
  • More Peaceful – I get to end everyday on my terms; I say 3 things I am grateful for that day

I choose me, I work on myself, I make decisions, I control myself.

Look where it has placed me in life; I am surrounded by amazing friends, family, neighbours, clients and other professionals. I love my jobs! If I make a mistake I will figure it out along the way but I woke up that day and took a leap.

I have experienced immense personal growth, healed of old wounds and I truly am able to love and accept myself for who I really am. It’s a small act that has made an enormous transformation in my life, a change that is healthier, less stressful and way more mindful.

Don’t wait as long as I did ; who will you choose today?
